Dr John Ode Iyanya was born in Ochodu Ukpa, Oju LGA of Benue State. He attended the renowned University of Jos where he obtained B.A. (Hons) Degree in English in 1991. He began his teaching career early as a Graduate Assistant at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomos, Oyo State during his NYSC.
After NYSC however, he vied off into journalism as a reporter, salesmanship before he turned over into education. He has over twenty years teaching experience and has taught English Language and Literature in schools in renowned post-primary institutions in Abuja, Nigeria. During this period, he wrote a literature text, obtained PGD, Education at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 2007, PGD, Advertising/Public Relations at International Institute of Journalism, Abuja in 2006, M.A. and PhD in Literature both at Nasarawa State University, Keffi in 2016 and 2019 respectively. Among several other responsibilities, he was HOD, Languages in both colleges, Editor-in-Chief and Examination Officer for many years in Cherryfield College.
He taught at City College of Education (CCOE)’s degree programmes affiliated to Adekunle University, Akungba, Akoko in Ondo State of Nigeria. He is currently the Deputy Director, Centre for Preliminary and General Studies at Cosmopolitan University, Abuja where he is presently lecturing.
He has many published academic papers in reputable journals that students find very useful for their studies and research works. His students’/supervisees have benefited tremendously from his painstaking supervision and caring mentorship. He is currently working on his poetry collection titled “Between Light and Shadow”.
Though engrossed in academics, he is so versatile that he engages in interdisciplinary activities. His passion with the pen is unequal; just as he is an avid reader, so is he with critiquing/criticising as well as editing, being an editorial consultant, he professionally and proficiently edits book manuscripts, articles, proposals; students’ project works, proofreading tasks and so on.
