Biography
Ms. Chandrani Chakraborty is a highly dedicated legal scholar and environmental law specialist who has built a distinguished profile in wildlife jurisprudence and public interest litigation (PIL). She is currently a Ph.D. Research Scholar at Motherhood University in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, where her doctoral thesis, supervised by Dr. Haricharan Singh Yadava, investigates the dynamic role of the Indian judiciary in wildlife conservation through the lens of PIL. Ms. Chakraborty holds a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from Kalyani University and an LL.M. with First Class honors from Motherhood University, where her master’s dissertation pioneered an analysis of wildlife crimes within Indian criminal law framework. Professionally enrolled with the Bar Council of West Bengal and a qualified advocate via the All India Bar Examination (AIBE), she seamlessly blends core constitutional law principles with active environmental advocacy. A exceptionally prolific author and legal commentator, Ms. Chakraborty has contributed extensively to international journals, book chapters, and leading legal platforms, including HeinOnline, Manupatra, and Legal Service India. Her extensive publication portfolio covers critical ecological frontiers, including animal welfare legislation, international laws regulating illegal wild plant trading, climate justice, and the Rights of Nature movement concerning non-human entities. To continuously refine her pedagogical and analytical methods, she has completed multiple advanced Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) hosted by premier institutions like the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), focusing on modern research methodology, environmental justice, and the integration of artificial intelligence in legal education. Her insightful legal analysis is regularly featured across major legal blogs and national digital forums, establishing her as an emerging voice in South Asian environmental policy.
