Biography
Jane Kartika Propiona is an Associate Researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Indonesia, bringing over 14 years of research experience across national science institutions. She originally began her career in 2009 with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) prior to its structural consolidation into BRIN. Born in Surabaya, Ms. Propiona specializes in sociology, qualitative research methodologies, and social policy evaluation. Throughout her career, she has consistently led and collaborated on complex, interdisciplinary projects with major government stakeholders, including serving as a Regional Team Coordinator for the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on multi-year national drug prevention and control surveys, and contributing as a national instructor and trainer for the Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey.Driven by a commitment to social justice and public welfare, Ms. Propiona’s research focuses primarily on the intersection of human rights, socio-economic policy, and vulnerable populations, with a particular emphasis on disability rights and rural marginalization. Her empirical work addresses critical topics such as inclusive healthcare access in public health centers, disability-responsive policy frameworks under the CRPD, and public facility accessibility. Beyond human rights analysis, her diverse portfolio extends to precision medicine case studies, medical device prototype evaluations, and the economic impacts of antimicrobial resistance. A prolific author, Ms. Propiona has published extensively across international journals, conference proceedings, and authored monographs published by LIPI Press, Kompas Gramedia, and the BNN Data and Information Center.
