Dr. M.B. Umar is currently, a Senior Lecturer in Agricultural Extension at Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, Nigeria. Mr. Umar has been involved in teaching and research in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology. He took appointment in 1991 as an Assistant Lecturer with the then Jigawa State Polytechnic. Born in Hadejia, Jigawa State in 1966; Mr. Umar attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1991. Later, in 2006, he obtained a Master’s degree in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology from the same university. In 2016, Mr. Umar also, obtained a PhD in the same field from the same university. His major areas of research include: Impact of Hadejia Valley Irrigation Project on Crop Productivity and Poverty Reduction. Mr. Umar has several publications in national and international journals, conferences and international book chapters. He joined the services of the university in 2019, now the head of department of Agricultural Economics and Extension and his current interests are in: e-Extension, communication, poverty reduction, rural innovations and sustainable development.
