I was born on 17th August 1962 in Ibadan Oyo State of Nigeria to Chief and Mrs. Kalu Kalu Iro. I had my Secondary School Certificate in 1976 and graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in July 1982. I worked as a Pharmacist in different capacities from 1984 after my internship and National Youth Service till 1995. In September 1995 I joined the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria Theological College and graduated in July 1997. I became a Minister and Technical Officer in the Presbyterian Community Services and Development – the Public Health Department of the Church. In the year 2000 I became the Executive Director of Presbyterian Community Services and Development. In 2009 I obtained Mater of Public Health from Imo State University, Owerri. In this year I become a lecturer in Pharmacology and Toxicology with Ebonyi State Institute of Health, Uburu; a position I combined with my job as Executive Director of Presbyterian Community Services and Development.
In 2015 I obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Public Health, with options in Epidemiology and Toxicology, from Abia State University, Uturu. I then got a Position of Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Abia State University. In 2019 I got a position in Rhema University, Aba as Associate Professor of Public Health and Pharmacology – a position I held till January 2021 when I got a job as Associate Professor of Public Health with Legacy University, The Gambia. I became the Director of Institute of Public Health, Gender and Global Climate Change of Legacy University. I combined the position with Provost of College of Administration, Law and Management Sciences (CALAMS) of Legacy University. In 2022 I relinquished the Position of the Provost of CALAMS and was appointed the Provost of College of Health Sciences, a position I am still holding.
In Community Services I have held the position of Coordinator of Abia State Network of NGOs (1997 -2000), South Eastern Regional Coordinator for Civil Society Network for HIV&AIDS in Nigeria (2000 – 2005), Coordinator for Abia State Network Against Cancers in Nigeria (2010 – 2015), and Abia State Health Advocacy Network (2016 -2021).
I have 57 publications in peer review journals, conference presentations, and book chapters. I peer review for three journals.
