Charlene Charmwakat Makai is a Human Development and Policy Specialist with nearly 12 years of experience in administration, policy design, and human capital development. She has worked extensively in corporate governance, strategic planning, and sustainable development within both government and non-governmental sectors.
She served for 11 years at the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), leading the Research Division before becoming Chief of Protocol for four years, where she contributed to policy development, diplomatic engagements, and strategic program implementation.
Charlene is the Founder and Country Director of Empower Her for Africa, an initiative that has successfully reintegrated over 100 out-of-school girls into education and empowered women with economic independence skills. Her work extends to peacebuilding, conflict mediation, and corporate governance research.
Academically, she holds an MSc in International Relations from the University of East London, a BA in History from the University of Maiduguri, and a Certificate in Leadership and Digital Transformation from Texas Southern University, Houston, USA. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management and the Institute of Corporate Administration, Nigeria.
