Dr. Sonia David is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) and a pioneering scholar in Film Therapy, holding India’s first Ph.D. in the field. Her interdisciplinary expertise spans Developmental Psychology, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Media Psychology, and Gender Studies. She integrates trauma-informed, evidence-based practices with experiential pedagogy, emphasizing ethics, social justice, and cultural inclusivity. A trained practitioner in Trauma-Focused ACT, Queer Affirmative Counselling, and Art Therapy, Dr. David’s work focuses on gender-inclusive healthcare, LGBTQIA++ mental health, body image, and digital psychological interventions. Her research employs qualitative and critical methods, exploring themes such as queer embodiment, feminist narrative inquiry, institutional betrayal trauma, and therapeutic media. With over 11 national and international publications and multiple conference presentations, she actively contributes to curriculum development and mental health advocacy. Her innovative teaching and inclusive scholarship continue to influence the evolving landscape of psychology and shape future mental health professionals in India.
