Biomedical Scientist / Epidemiologist
Dr. Paul Abba is a skilled biomedical scientist and epidemiologist with extensive experience in health facilities management. He currently heads the Laboratory Department at Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi, Nigeria, where he conducts cutting-edge research in various areas of healthcare.
Dr. Abba’s primary research interest lies in antimicrobial resistance, particularly concerning various bacteria in healthcare settings. His ongoing work is focused on preserving the effectiveness of antimicrobials through a One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health. Dr. Abba is also a passionate advocate for antibacterial stewardship, working to ensure the responsible use of antibiotics to combat resistance.
Dr. Abba is happily married to Anne Abba, and they are blessed with three children. Their children have pursued diverse careers: one is a medical laboratory scientist, another is a radiographer, and the third is an estate manager/valuer. Dr. Abba values family and enjoys balancing his demanding career with a fulfilling personal life.
In addition to his professional work, Dr. Abba is passionate about lecturing and sharing his knowledge with students. He enjoys carrying out diagnostic tests, as well as engaging in research related to his areas of expertise. His dedication to educating future professionals in the biomedical and healthcare fields is one of the many aspects of his work that he finds most rewarding.
