Elizabeth Jumwa Munyaya is currently a lecturer in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature at Pwani University. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree in English and Literature from Moi University in Eldoret. After a brief stint as a secondary school teacher from 2001 to 2007, she pursued a Master of Linguistics at the University of Nairobi.
She later transitioned into part-time lecturing at Moi University Coast Campus, the University of Nairobi (Coast Campus), and Pwani University, where she has been a full-time faculty member since 2013. While at Pwani University, Elizabeth also undertook her PhD in Linguistics.
Her primary research areas include Morphology, Communication, and Semantics and Pragmatics. Currently, together with her master’s students, Elizabeth is conducting research on HPV vaccine communication in Kilifi County and the role of debate in accelerating ESL (English as a Second Language) proficiency.
Elizabeth’s areas of expertise include English linguistics, Communication, and Pragmatics. She is an active member of the Pragmatics Association in Africa and the Language Association of East Africa, contributing to the academic and research community.
