Rahman M. Mahbub, PhD is an academician, translator, critic, bilingual writer and a poet. His research interests include Comparative Literature, Postcolonial Literature and Translation Studies.
A Ph.D. degree along with a wealth of teaching experience of around 20 years as a Faculty Member in different universities, and 42 Publications (24 Research Articles, 14 Books, 4 Conference Papers and 3 Books in progress) have enabled him to play a vital role in fast-paced teaching environment and work as a participatory researcher and Faculty Member.
Mahbub earned his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and the title of his doctoral dissertation is “Elements of Alienation, Absurdity, Waiting and Hope in the Works of Samuel Beckett and Sayeed Ahmad: A Comparative Study”. He completed his B.A. ( Hons.) and M. A. in English Language and Literature from Jahangirnagar University. Since then, Mahbub has been teaching English Language and Literature for over 20 years at different universities. Now, he teaches at the Department of English, City University as an Associate Professor.
He has published – in both English and Bengali – a good number of creative articles on literature, literary criticism, socio-cultural issues and on topics of varied interest in different national dailies, periodicals, little magazines. He is also a regular feature writer and translator from 2005 in Monthly Gonoshasthaya – a renowned journal of Bangladesh since 1973.
He has also published twenty-four Research Papers and Book Reviews in reputed journals. He has presented four conference papers in Bangladesh and India as keynote speaker and resource person. Moreover, he has fourteen books to his credit. For him reading and writing are a living experience as: “The word that is heard perishes, but the letter that is written remains.”
Besides academic responsibilities he was also the member secretary of Seminar and Debate Committee, Editorial board member of various publications committees at different institutions. He has coordinated and facilitated English Language Training for English Teachers, Medical College Students, Nurses and Senior Paramedics and trained university students on translation and creative writing.
Currently, he is the Head of the Department and Chair, Program Self-Assessment Committee, IQAC, Department of English, City University. He is one of PhD Thesis Evaluation Panel Members & External Examiners at a University in India. He worked as an adjunct/guest faculty and/or External Examiner at Jahangirnagar University, BUP, DIU, and GB.
He has been working as an Associate Editor, IDEAS: A Journal of Literature Arts and Culture (A Research Journal of the Institute of Advanced Studies), since 2015, Associate Editor, BODHI, International Journal of Research in Humanities, Arts and Science, India and Reviewer, International Journal of Research and Innovation in Social Sciences (IJRISS), India. He has edited a good number of wall magazines since his school days including KOTHA arr LEKHA ( 2010- 2022).
He was an honorary Consultant, Gono Publication and guest Co-Editor, Writer, Translator and Essayist of Monthly Gonoshasthaya.
Dr. Mahbub has also Supervised Theses Papers/ Dissertation and course-project works (of Translation Studies) of more than 500 students.
