Dr Roopa R. Rao
Associate Professor at the College of Home Science Nirmala
Niketan (Affiliated with the University of Mumbai), has 30+ years
of teaching experience spanning Ergonomics, Interior Design,
Hospitality Management, and Consumer Education. Her Ph.D.
dissertation, “Prevalence of Musculoskeletal Discomfort and
Needle Stick and Sharps Injury Among Nurses in Mumbai,”
underscores her expertise. She has guided 70+ undergraduate and
17 postgraduate research projects, is currently mentoring 3 Ph.D.
scholars, and authored 45+ publications, 8 chapters, and 7 coauthored
books.
Beyond teaching, Dr Roopa serves as Joint Secretary of the International Board for
Education, Research, and Development (IBERD), actively contributing to international
conferences. She plays pivotal roles on multiple Boards of Studies, and her leadership extends
to managing the University of Mumbai’s participation in prestigious research conventions,
Anveshan (National Level) and Aavishkar (State Level).
Her noteworthy accomplishments include a Silver Medal at the 12th Aavishkar Maharashtra
State Research Convention (2018) and a Gold Medal at the 13th Aavishkar Maharashtra State
Research Convention (2019). She has been the district co-coordinator of, the Avishkar
Research Convention since 2019 and was appointed as the Team Manager to lead the
University of Mumbai team at the 14th and 15th Aavishkar Research Convention 2020,
Anveshan West Zone Research Convention 2020, and Anveshan National Research
Convention 2020, 2022 and 2023.
Dr Roopa passionately shares knowledge through workshops, seminars, and training
programs for students and industry professionals. She also actively engages in social
initiatives by organizing skill development and awareness programs for underprivileged
communities. Her active involvement extends to multiple organizations, including the Indian
Society for Ergonomics (ISE), Consumer Guidance Society of India (CGSI), Council for Fair
Business Practices (CFBP), Home Science Association of India (HSAI), Indian Association
for Women’s Studies (IAWS), and Indian Association Occupational Health (IAOH).
