Biography
Biography of Dr. Stephen Ngetich Barkwang, PhD: Dr. Stephen Ngetich Barkwang is a distinguished educator and leader whose dedication to improving the education sector in Kenya spans over three decades. He began his educational journey at Kituro Primary School, where he completed his Certificate of Primary Education in 1982. From there, he progressed to Tenges Secondary School, where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) in 1986. His pursuit of academic excellence led him to Kabarnet High School, where he completed his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) in 1988. In 1990, he enrolled at Kisii University College, earning a Diploma in Education, which laid the foundation for his career in the educational field. Determined to expand his expertise, he furthered his studies at the University of Nairobi, obtaining a Bachelor of Education (Arts- Economic and Accounting) with honours in 2002. His leadership potential inspired him to join Egerton University for a Master of Education in Educational Management, which he completed in 2006. Continuing his pursuit of academic excellence, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Management, graduating with distinction. Throughout his career, Dr. Stephen Ngetich Barkwang has held numerous influential leadership positions in Kenya’s education sector, showcasing his commitment to the development of education at all levels. He currently serves as the Deputy Director of Curriculum Development & Training at the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI), a role he has held since 2019. Prior to this, he was appointed as the Personal Advisor on Educational Policies to the Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Kenya, from 2018 to 2019. His impressive leadership experience also includes serving as the Regional Coordinator for Rift Valley at KEMI from 2011 to 2018, Head of Department of Policy & Administration at the Kenya Education Staff Institute (KESI) in 2010-2011, Principal at Kapkawa Boys High School (2003-2004), Principal at Chemolingot Secondary School (2002-2003), Deputy Principal at Marigat Secondary School (1999-2002), and Head of Department at Marigat Secondary School (1994-1999). His contributions to the education sector have been widely recognized. Dr. Stephen Ngetich Barkwang has been honoured with several awards, including serving as a reviewer for the International Journal of Research in Innovative and Sustainable Solutions (IJRISS), where he reviews research articles for publication. He has also received accolades for his work in examination setting over the past ten years, as well as for producing some of the best students’ results in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) across several schools he taught. Currently, Dr. Stephen Ngetich Barkwang continues to serve in various key educational committees and boards, including the Human Resource Management Advisory Committee (HRMAC) at KEMI, and the Boards of Management at Kimalel Girls High School and Koriema Secondary School. A dedicated member of the Kenya Association of Educational Administration and Management (KAEAM), Dr. Stephen Ngetich Barkwang remains a committed advocate for educational advancement and continues to inspire future generations of learners and educators in Kenya.
