Biography
Ezekiel Tosin Babatunde is a Ph.D. student in Environmental Toxicology at Texas Tech University. His research interests focus on environmental chemistry, molecular toxicology, environmental health, and risk assessment. His work investigates the occurrence, detection, and biological effects of environmental contaminants, with particular emphasis on oxidative stress, genotoxicity, gene expression, epigenetic mechanisms, and environmentally linked diseases. He has experience in contaminant analysis, environmental monitoring, ecological risk assessment, and molecular toxicology, including research on persistent organic pollutants and emerging contaminants. His current research interests include understanding the molecular mechanisms through which environmental exposures contribute to adverse environmental and human health outcomes and developing approaches to improve contaminant detection, biomarker discovery, and environmental health risk assessment. Complementing his academic achievements, Mr. Babatunde possesses extensive regulatory and field experience, having served as an Environmental Scientist for the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), where he led post-spill ecological impact assessments and environmental sensitivity mapping. His technical toolkit bridges advanced analytical laboratory instrumentation—such as GC-MS, LC-MS, and ICP-MS—with computational proficiency in data analysis using R and Python, alongside geospatial applications via ArcGIS. An active leader and science communicator, Ezekiel serves as an SIUE Student Ambassador, a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), and has contributed his expertise globally as a judge for the Buckeye Science & Engineering Fair. His peer-reviewed publications span urban environmental aesthetics, sustainable development behaviors, and chemical biodegradation, reflecting a deep commitment to data-driven environmental health and policy decisions.
