Dumitru Toader was born in Jina, Sibiu County, Romania on September 17, 1948. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, promotion of 1971. In 1987 he obtained the scientific title Ph. D. engineer in the field of electrical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara. Is PhD supervisor in the field of electrical engineering since year 2009. During 1971-1975 he worked as a trainee researcher at the National Electrical Networks Company in Bucharest, the Protection and Automation Laboratory in Deva. In 1975 he became a teacher at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara, and since 2007 he is a teacher at the Department of Physics Fundamental for Engineering, which was obtained by merging the Electrical Engineering team with the Physics team of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara. In the period 2000-2008 he was the dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and in the period 2008-2014 he was the head of the Department of Physics Fundamental for Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Timișoara. Since 2011 he is the Head of the Research Center “Modern Methods of Analysis of Physical Phenomena” at the Polytechnic University of Timișoara. In the period 2012-2016 he was a member of the commission 9 Electrical Engineering within the National Council for Attestation of University Diplomas and Certificates from Romania. Since 2008 he is an honorary member of the Romanian National Council of the World Energy Committee. The main research areas are: analysis of the electromagnetic field and electrical circuits; analysis of asymmetric regimes in medium voltage electrical networks; protections and automation related to medium voltage electrical networks; renewable energies.
