Engr. Martin Ifeanyi Mbamalu is a Nigerian renewable energy engineer, innovator, and applied researcher widely recognized for his contributions to clean energy technologies, sustainable waste-to-energy systems, and engineering capacity development. With a career rooted in practical problem-solving, he has consistently focused on solutions that address energy access, environmental protection, and public health challenges in developing economies.
He currently serves as the Head of the Process Engineering and Renewable Energy Product Development Unit at the National Engineering Design Development Institute (NEDDI), a Federal Government agency under Nigeria’s science and engineering infrastructure framework. In this role, Engr. Mbamalu leads multidisciplinary teams in the design, fabrication, and deployment of scalable renewable energy products for academic institutions, SMEs, and rural communities.
Engr. Mbamalu is best known for pioneering the patented Smokeless Firewood Saving Stove and the Batch Gasifier Reactor System for cooking and power generation. These innovations have demonstrated significant reductions in firewood consumption, carbon emissions, and indoor air pollution, while improving cooking efficiency and user safety. His work in these areas earned national recognition through the Presidential Committee on Inventions and Innovations (PSCII) award cycles of 2017/2018 and 2019/2020.
Beyond product development, he is actively involved in advanced research on AI-driven incineration systems, pyrolysis technology, bioenergy, and vehicle wake wind energy harvesting, combining engineering design with data-driven optimization. He has also contributed extensively as a peer reviewer for international journals, reflecting his standing as a subject-matter expert in renewable energy and sustainability.
