Biography
Muhammad Ilias is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Bangladesh, where he has been a faculty member since March 2014. He holds both a Bachelor and a Master of Social Science in Sociology from the University of Rajshahi, securing the prestigious first position in merit for both degrees. Dr. Ilias possesses a strong track record in institutional governance and quality assurance, serving as a member of the Planning, Academic, and University Admission Committees, as well as the World Bank-funded Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) Self-Assessment Team. Beyond his administrative roles, he teaches foundational and advanced courses including Research Methodology, Social Demography, and the Sociology of Childhood and Child Rights, alongside his active role as the central Moderator of the Begum Rokeya University Debating Society. Driven by a focus on development, human rights, and social vulnerability, Mr. Ilias’s research spans maternal healthcare, child rights, and urban migration patterns. His scholarly work is published in peer-reviewed platforms like the IOSR Journal of Humanities and Social Science, with forthcoming research investigating the socio-economic challenges encountered by migrated street vendors. Professionally trained in public health field research through his tenure with the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), he bridges the gap between academia and public policy as the institutional Focal Person for the Child Rights Monitoring Project, run jointly with Save the Children. He is an active member of the Bangladesh Child Rights Academia—collaborating on international curriculum peer reviews—and integrates his social advocacy with vibrant campus leadership, serving as an advisor to key student cultural, humanitarian, and athletic organizations.
