Rabi Elabor is a distinguished environmental scientist, researcher, and Ph.D. candidate at the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) School of the Environment. With a multidisciplinary background that spans environmental science, ceramic nanomaterials, GIS, machine learning, visual communication, and industrial design. Rabi is at the forefront of research on sustainable environmental solutions, addressing challenges related to climate change, industrial waste, aquaculture, and environmental pollution. Her work integrates geospatial modelling and computational analysis to address the impacts of climate change, environmental pollution, and resource use on marine, estuarine, and inland ecosystems
Before beginning her doctoral studies, Rabi’s scientific journey began in industrial design and ceramic technology, evolving into interdisciplinary research aimed at solving complex environmental challenges for sustainable development. She gained hands-on experience as a senior research technician at Jacio Environmental Limited (Nigeria), where she contributed to major environmental projects. Her international academic and research experiences in Nigeria and the U.S. reflect her global perspective and collaborative approach.
She has completed advanced training in Esri GIS, data science, machine learning, boat safety, nanotechnology, OSHA safety license, and UN health emergency programs. She volunteers with the FAMU Lola Hampton-Frank Pinder Center for Agroecology and contributes to educational initiatives like the PE-STEM Annual Summer Academy. Rabi is currently with the FracTracker Alliance (USA), where she led GIS analyses on carbon capture and storage (CCS) and oil/gas reservoir risks to support national environmental and policy efforts
Her research has been presented at numerous global conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. She serves as a peer reviewer and is active in professional organizations such as the Ecological Society of America, Marine Technology Society, Association for Women in Science, Women in GIS, and the World Aquaculture Society. Her contributions have earned her several accolades, including the National ADDY® Award, Best Award Presentation at ECP, MTS EMERGE Scholarship, and the HBCU Data Science Research Award. Outside of research, Rabi is passionate about mentorship, STEM education, and advocating for women in science, embodying a commitment to innovation, impact, and equity in environmental sustainability.
