Biography
Prof Abiodun Ayodele Ojo is an Analytical, Environmental and Forensic Chemist, with a research focus on the studies of biogeochemistry of environmental pollutants in terrestrial and marine ecosystem, analytical instrumental development, and evaluation of plant species for the treatment of human diseases. His competencies cover studies of human absorption and excretion, genetic analysis and molecular identification and spectroscopic analysis of herbal preparations in disease management. He obtained a first-class bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, Nigeria in 1985 and a Ph.D. in Analytical Environmental Chemistry from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia Canada in 1995. Prof. Abiodun A. Ojo is a diligent, articulate and resourceful individual and a team player with successful teaching records of accomplishment from universities in Nigeria and abroad. He is the current (March 2024 – present) Provost of Postgraduate Studies College and Chairman of the Committee of Provosts, Deans and Directors in Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD). He was the immediate past Provost of the College of Sciences at Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) (2014 – 2021). Prof. Ojo has been teaching chemistry since after his NYSC in 1985/1986, first at the College of Education, Ilesa, Osun State (1986/1987), then as a supervising teaching assistant in the Chemistry undergraduate program at the University of British Columbia (UBC) from 1989 to 1994, through several teaching appointments abroad (Albany State University, Bainbridge College, Georgia Perimeter College, Atlanta Metropolitan State College, from 2000 to 2012), to his current appointment at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) from 2012 till date. As a robust academic, Prof. Ojo is driven by the triple objectives of teaching, research and community service. Altogether, Prof. Ojo has over sixty scientific publications and twenty-one conference and workshop papers, as well as ten technical and grant reports. He is honest, amiable and adaptable to any multicultural environment. He is also passionate about sustainable development issues, particularly as they relate to the post-2015 global development agenda. He is currently the UNESCO Chair in Entrepreneurship Education for Sustainable Development in Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (2019 – present). The ABUAD UNESCO Chair collaborates with the IFAD-YEASA programme to train youths in Agribusiness since 2019 till date. Several Colleges of Education and University Students Associations have invited Prof. Ojo to deliver guest lectures during their annual celebrations. He is passionate about youth activities and programmes that provides opportunities for young people to excel in life. Prof Abiodun A. Ojo is a fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN), fellow of the African Academics Network (FAAN), Knight of John Wesley (KJW), married, and is blessed with two grown up daughters.
