Biography
Herbert is committed to strengthening epidemiological systems, advancing disease surveillance, and improving public health preparedness. Through his work with EPRI, he focuses on building systems that enable communities to detect, respond to, and prevent public health threats using real-time data and practical, evidence-based interventions. His work is grounded in epidemiology, with a strong focus on infectious diseases, pandemics, and immunology. He is particularly interested in how surveillance systems, data analytics, and health system design can be integrated to improve early warning and response, especially in low-resource settings. Alongside this, Herbert works at the intersection of research, disability inclusion, and policy, with an emphasis on ensuring that public health interventions are both data-driven and socially responsive. He believes that sustainable progress depends on combining digital innovation, strong evidence, and meaningful collaboration across sectors. Over the years, he has facilitated several training workshops and capacity-building programmes across different settings: 2024 – Making sense of TB data: advanced data analysis and interpretation of TB indicators, Africa University 2023 – Epidemiological Surveillance & Outbreak Response: training health professionals in disease tracking, case investigation, and outbreak response 2020 – Training of Senior Managers of Health Institutions, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Boston, United States 2019 – Structured Operational Research and Training Initiative (SORT-IT), The Union, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 2018 – International Management and Development Program (IMDP), The Union, Malaysia – Strategic planning and innovation
