Dr. Elizabeth Jumwa Munyaya is a Kenyan linguist, academic leader, and Lecturer of Communication Skills and English in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature at Pwani University. She holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Pwani University, an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Nairobi, and a B.Ed. (Arts) with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from Moi University. With a career in education spanning over two decades, Dr. Munyaya has held several key administrative appointments at Pwani University, including Academic Leader for the B.A. in English & Linguistics, Member of the Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUS), and multiple tenures as Acting Director of the Board of Undergraduate Studies and Acting Chair of Department.A scholar specializing in semantics, pragmatics, phonology, and applied linguistics, Dr. Munyaya’s research focuses heavily on the description and preservation of indigenous Kenyan languages, particularly Kigiryama. She has authored books, course modules, and peer-reviewed articles, including research on sense relations, folklore in primary education, and Kigiryama phonology. Beyond her teaching and postgraduate research supervision, she is actively involved in academic governance, international research conferences, and community service, serving on the Boards of Management for several local educational institutions and as Treasurer for the Pwani University Chapter of the University Academic Staff Union (UASU).
