Dr. K. Sahayaraani is an Indian performing arts scholar, Bharatanatyam practitioner, educator, choreographer, and academic specializing in Bharatanatyam and Dance Studies. She has been serving as an Assistant Professor (Selection Grade) at Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, Tiruchirappalli, since 2018. She holds a Ph.D. in Bharatanatyam from Tamil University, Thanjavur, an M.Sc. in Yoga, an M.F.A. and B.F.A. in Bharatanatyam, and postgraduate and diploma qualifications in Bharatanatyam. She qualified the UGC-NET in 2017 and has extensive expertise in Abhinayam, Nattuvangam, Choreography, Bharatanatyam performance, dance pedagogy, and theoretical instruction. Her professional responsibilities have also included coordinating student affairs and anti-drug initiatives, serving as a cultural coordinator, and acting as an adjudicator for the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu. She is a member of the Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India (ABHAI) and has received several honours recognizing her contributions to Bharatanatyam and the performing arts.Dr. Sahayaraani has an active record of scholarly publication and academic contribution in Dance Studies, Bharatanatyam, Performing Arts, Dance Research, Dance Methodology, and Arts Education. Her publications and books address Bharatanatyam teaching and learning, dance methodology, choreography and dance forms, Abhinaya, the relationship between dance and Tamil literary traditions, and the contemporary interpretation of classical Indian dance. Her research has also explored the therapeutic and psychosocial dimensions of dance, including the role of dance movements in postnatal mental-health-related care. She has authored educational resources for UGC-NET and JRF preparation in Performing Arts and has published works examining Silappathikaram, Thirukkural, and other Tamil cultural and literary traditions through the perspective of dance.
