FASSIE MANJU is a Sierra Leonean academic and sociologist whose journey from the rural hamlet of Yikandor in the Panga Chiefdom of Pujehun District to international scholarship embodies the transformative power of perseverance. His intellectual foundation was laid at Bahai Primary School in Yikandor, after which he advanced to St. Paul’s Secondary School, where he successfully completed both his junior and senior secondary education.
Following secondary school, FASSIE MANJU dedicated five years of service as an untrained and unqualified teacher. This formative period in the classroom did more than shape young minds; it crystallized his own conviction that deeper knowledge was essential to his calling. Driven by that realization, he made the decisive choice to pursue higher education. In the 2012–2013 academic years, he enrolled in the Department of Sociology and Social Work, where his analytical rigor and commitment to understanding societal structures quickly became evident.
Upon graduating in 2016, his department recognized his exceptional potential by inviting him to serve as a Research and Teaching Assistant (RTA). In this capacity, he honed his pedagogical skills and contributed to the intellectual life of the faculty until 2020, when his dedication was formalized through an appointment as Lecturer 2. Over the subsequent years, he built a reputation as a thoughtful educator and emerging scholar, yet he continued to seek avenues for deeper research training.
In 2025, that determination led him to apply directly to the East China University of Science and Technology. Competing on the strength of his academic record and vision, he was awarded a prestigious scholarship by the university, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his scholarly career—one that promises to bridge his grassroots insight with global sociological inquiry.
