Biography
Dr. Okechukwu Kalu Iro is a Nigerian **Public Health and Environmental Health scholar, epidemiologist, pharmacist, and academic administrator**, currently serving as an Associate Professor of Public Health and Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Legacy University, The Gambia. He holds a B.Pharm from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, an MPH from Imo State University, and a PhD in Environmental (Public) Health Sciences from Abia State University, with specialization in **Epidemiology and Toxicology**. He has held senior academic positions in Public Health, Pharmacology, and Toxicology at universities in Nigeria and The Gambia, and has extensive experience in teaching and postgraduate supervision. His teaching expertise includes **Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Occupational Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and Safety, Toxicology, Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Research Methods, Data Analysis, and Monitoring and Evaluation**. He has also held substantial leadership and professional roles in public health programming, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, community health, health advocacy, and institutional management.Dr. Iro has more than three decades of combined academic, clinical, public health, research, and development-sector experience. His research and professional work encompasses **HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases, epidemiology, environmental health, occupational health, food safety, toxicology, reproductive health, health systems, community health, and public health programme evaluation**. He has coordinated and managed numerous large-scale health and development projects supported by organizations including USAID, the World Bank, the Global Fund, UNICEF, and international development partners, and has contributed to national and state-level HIV/AIDS strategic plans and public health guidelines. His research includes studies on HIV/AIDS-related morbidity and work productivity, antiretroviral therapy, meat safety management, enteric diseases, and environmental and public health challenges. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health of Great Britain and several Nigerian environmental and public health professional bodies, he has also supervised PhD and MSc students and participated extensively in international conferences, training programmes, evaluations, advocacy initiatives, and capacity-building activities. His broad expertise makes him well suited for academic research and peer review in **Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Occupational Health, Toxicology, Food Safety, Health Promotion, HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases, Biostatistics, Health Systems, Community Health, Global Health, and Public Health Management**.
