Bornface Mafwela is a Zambian development practitioner, humanitarian professional, governance and leadership researcher, and international development specialist with more than three decades of experience across Africa and the Middle East. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Governance and Leadership at the University of Lusaka, with research focusing on climate patterns, food security, and coping strategies, and holds postgraduate qualifications in Environmental Impact Assessment, Development Studies, and International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid. He currently serves as Country Director of the African Centre for Economic Development, Zambia, and as an Adjunct Researcher at the African Institute for Capacity Development. His extensive professional experience includes senior leadership positions with the United Church of Zambia, Norwegian Church Aid/DanChurchAid, Family Health International, Jubilee Stewards of Africa, Mary Joy Development Program, TASO Uganda, and CARE International. His expertise encompasses Governance and Leadership, Humanitarian Action, International Development, Strategic Planning, Institutional Capacity Building, Resource Mobilisation, Gender Mainstreaming, Safeguarding, Climate-Smart Development, and Programme Management.Mafwela has contributed to research and publications addressing climate change, food security, smallholder agriculture, humanitarian action, development and peace, and community coping strategies, including studies on the effects of climate change among smallholder farmers in Zambia. His professional and research work spans humanitarian-development-peace approaches, climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, governance, health and HIV/AIDS programming, gender, protection, disaster response, organizational development, and community development. He has also provided extensive consultancy and capacity-building support to government, civil society, church organizations, humanitarian agencies, and development partners, including training in governance, gender mainstreaming, resource mobilisation, safeguarding, and humanitarian standards.
