Prof. Joven Ian Miclat Marquez is a dedicated Filipino social studies educator, cultural heritage researcher, and faculty member in the Department of Social Sciences within the College of Teacher Education at President Ramon Magsaysay State University (PRMSU) in Iba, Zambales, Philippines. His academic career spans over a decade of instructional service, ranging from early foundational work as an elementary and secondary social studies teacher at Saint Augustine School and the Department of Education’s San Agustin Integrated School, to his current role in higher education. Professor Marquez holds a Bachelor of Secondary Education and a Master of Arts in Education, both majoring in Social Studies from PRMSU, and is currently advancing his terminal qualifications as a Ph.D. candidate in Southeast Asian Studies at Centro Escolar University in Manila. In addition to his instructional duties, he has contributed significantly to university governance and civic outreach, serving a vital tenure as the Community Involvement and Extension Coordinator for PRMSU’s College of Teacher Education, where he championed regional educational initiatives and localized community development frameworks.A prominent advocate for local historiography and museology, Professor Marquez specializes in mapping and preserving the tangible, intangible, and culinary heritage of the Central Luzon region. His extensive research portfolio includes serving as a Project Staff member for the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-funded Artisan Salt Technology Innovation and Preservation (ASIN) Museum Team, and acting as an institutional Project Proponent for the comprehensive cultural mapping of Iba, Zambales. A regular presenter at international symposia from Indonesia to Vietnam, his scholarly inquiries explore comparative religious rituals, Spanish-era ecclesiastical architecture, and regional customs, alongside serving as a Review Editor for the GEAPHEI Research Journal. Beyond academia, Professor Marquez plays a pivotal role in public heritage policy, operating as a Project Consultant on Local History for the Municipality of Iba and serving as the Cultural Heritage Preservation Sectoral Representative to the Zambales Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts Council. His professional standing is underscored by active memberships in elite global bodies, including the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the Royal Anthropological Institute, and Heritage Asia Pacific (heritAP).
