Biography
I am an environmental scientist and Ph.D. student at Florida A&M University, USA, specializing in heavy metal biomonitoring and remediation using mycotechnology. My research integrates environmental diagnostics, metagenomics, and machine learning to uncover microbial mechanisms for detoxification and support sustainable remediation strategies. Initially, my interest in environmental science was sparked by a deep fascination with environmental chemistry, where I explored the intricate interactions between heavy metals, organic pollutants, nutrient analysis, and cleanup and remediation in ecosystems. As I explored further, I realized that chemistry alone could not solve the complex challenges of environmental contamination. The interdisciplinary between chemistry and microbiology became the foundation of my scientific identity. This led me to environmental microbiology and biotechnology, where I discovered fungi’s powerful roles in transforming and detoxifying pollutants into less toxic substances. Before my doctoral studies, I gained robust, practical experience working at Jacio Environmental Limited in Nigeria. I was involved in field sampling, air and water quality monitoring, soil and sediment analysis, environmental audits, impact assessments, environmental cleanup, and remediation. My work contributed to significant environmental projects for companies like Shell Nigeria, NPDC, First Hydrocarbon Nigeria, Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, and NPDC, including hydrocarbon spill remediation and natural gas analysis. I am committed to interdisciplinary collaboration to tackle emerging pollutants and ecological shifts driven by climate change and industrialization. I earned my master’s in industrial chemistry from the University of Benin, complemented by data analysis and safe water handling coursework from institutions such as World Quant University and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). I am also an active member of the Chemical Society of Nigeria and the American Society for Microbiology.
