Doctor of Development Education in Special Education

The Doctor of Development Education in Special Education program is designed for individuals who aspire to lead and innovate in the field of special education. This advanced degree emphasizes educational leadership, developmental psychology, and specialized teaching techniques to support students with diverse learning needs. Graduates will be equipped to address the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, implement evidence-based strategies, and foster inclusive learning environments.

The curriculum combines theory with practical application, providing students with a deep understanding of the developmental stages and educational needs of children and adults with disabilities. The program also emphasizes research, policy advocacy, and collaboration with professionals in the education system to ensure that every learner has access to high-quality education.

Through this program, individuals will be prepared to make meaningful contributions to the field of special education, advocate for systemic changes, and lead efforts in creating supportive educational frameworks for all students, regardless of their learning challenges.

Biography
Dr. Susan Vicente Villarente is a highly experienced educator with a distinguished career in Special Education spanning nearly 30 years. She holds a Doctor of Education in Special Education, a Master of Arts in Education in Special Education specializing in Learning Disabilities, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and a degree in Secondary Education majoring in Music, Arts, Physical Education. Dr. Villarente has dedicated her career to teaching at the higher education level, holding various administrative positions including Director of Student Services for almost 10 years and Practicum Supervisor for nearly 15 years. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Needs Education within the College of Education, handling both major and minor subjects in the Special Needs program and major subjects in the graduate school for the same program. Dr. Villarente is passionate about contributing to the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) College of Education, where she aims to deliver cutting-edge lectures and courses in Special Needs Education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She is committed to sound teaching practices, high ethical standards, and student success. Beyond specialized instruction, she is dedicated to promoting inclusive education principles throughout the College of Education curriculum. Her interests at USeP include contributing to curriculum development and refinement, incorporating the latest research and technological advancements. She is eager to mentor and collaborate with faculty, fostering research and innovation. Dr. Villarente believes in community engagement and hopes to connect USeP’s program with local organizations and families through outreach programs. She is also committed to ongoing research in areas such as assistive technology, differentiated instruction, and inclusive classroom practices, and seeks professional growth through continued learning and development.
