Wilbert B. Wanas is a passionate educator, researcher, and advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ rights, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation. As a Secondary School Teacher at Guinaoang National High School in Mankayan, Benguet, he plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of leaders, particularly in the social sciences. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management at Benguet State University, where he also earned his Master’s in Social Studies and Bachelor’s in Secondary Education (Major in Social Studies). He also earned units in Masters in Education at Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (now MPSU).
With a career spanning education, human resources, and community service, Wanas has built a strong reputation as a changemaker. He serves as a Community Facilitator for Cordillera Exploration Co. Inc., an Advisory Council Member of the Benguet First Provincial Mobile Force Company, and a Research Partner of Benguet State University. As a former District Youth Formation Coordinator and a Speaker’s Bureau Member of NEDA-SPCAR, he has actively championed initiatives on youth leadership, safe spaces, and regional autonomy, earning multiple accolades for his work.
An accomplished researcher, Wanas delves into Indigenous traditions, environmental issues, and social concerns. His study, “Navigating Dual Burdens: A Study on Resilience Among Student-Miners,” was recognized as the Best Paper at the 2025 International Summit on Educational Management & Emerging Technology (ISEMET) in Kuala Lumpur. His work reflects his dedication to amplifying marginalized voices and addressing critical issues affecting Indigenous and rural communities.
Beyond academia, Wanas is a sought-after speaker, leading conversations on Indigenous rights, mental health awareness, and policy advocacy. His unwavering commitment to inclusive education, cultural preservation, and social justice continues to inspire and empower communities, paving the way for a more just and equitable society.
