Ojamalia Priscilla Godwins is a globally recognized leader in public health, nutrition, and disaster management whose career spans over a decade of transformative contributions to underserved communities. As the first female graduate in her family, she has broken generational barriers to rise as a trailblazer in her field, impacting lives across continents and inspiring future generations to pursue education and leadership.
Godwins’ academic journey is a testament to her commitment to excellence and lifelong learning. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Kogi State University, Nigeria, a Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management from the Federal University of Technology Minna, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Maiduguri. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Health (Nutrition Science) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she combines cutting-edge research with practical solutions to global health challenges.
Throughout her career, Godwins has held pivotal roles that have redefined public health and disaster management. As a Program Manager, she was the Project Director for the World Bank’s largest ever funded nutrition project in Nigeria – “Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project. She led a team of about 27 staff and 350 volunteers to deliver life-saving nutrition services to over 378,728 beneficiaries, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under five. Her innovative strategies significantly reduced malnutrition rates and improved maternal and child health outcomes in Nigeria.
Godwins’ leadership extended to the global stage when she led her team as a major exhibitor at the USAID Expo/Exhibition on Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and other life-saving nutrition commodities. This recognition highlighted her innovative approaches to addressing malnutrition and positioned her as an advocate for sustainable health solutions worldwide.
Her expertise in disaster management is equally remarkable. At the Institute of Disaster Management and Safety Science, she trained over 15,000 individuals on disaster response, public health, and community resilience. She has also collaborated with key organizations, including UNICEF, where she trained staff on WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) practices, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), strengthening their emergency response capabilities.
